Job Losses
Another 100 jobs to go
Two of the area’s biggest employers announced job cuts this week. Senator International, based at Altham, claimed that disappointing sales in the first couple of months of 2010 meant that the company needed to take steps to secure the long-term future of the firm.
Senator’s commercial director Paul Clarke added “This is the first major redundancy programme that Senator International has had to implement in its 28-year history.
“It is confident of the future for its remaining workforce and the many local suppliers who manufacture a large proportion of its components.
“These measures, as unpalatable as they are, will result in a more secure future for the company and its employees.”
Express Gifts has announced that it will close its Marlborough Street warehouse and concentrate on its main facility in Church. It is hoped that some additional jobs will be created at the Henry Street site and that those affected by the redundancies will be able to apply for these positions.
There seems to be no sign yet of the recession having ended in Hyndburn and the so-called “green shoots of recovery” have not yet appeared locally.

It is a shame for the people Senator have made redundant. However, it is no great surprise that the company is failing given the arrogent attitude and cavalier attitude towards staff adopted by the family dynasty that owns/runs Sentator. It is shameful that people have lost their jobs, especially as the MD runs several cars including a Ferrari!
