Microsoft Courier

By Barbara Fitzhugh • on March 11, 2010

Microsoft clearly don’t intend to be far behind Apple in launching their own tablet. Details are starting to emerge of the intended rival to the iPad. These have been “leaked”, and there is no official comment from Microsoft.

The Courier, as it is currently called, opens like a book and has two touch screens. The screens can be operated by touch or by stylus and both will recognise the user’s handwriting. Also, unlike the iPad, the Courier is thought to have a built-in camera.

What is not yet known, is what operating system the Courier will be run on. Speculation in the industry is that it will be the Windows Phone OS 7.0 and that this will make this a niche product in the same way that the iPad is expected to be. If running on Windows 7 there would be a much broader appeal. Early criticism of both devices is that they are just giant smartphones with limited functionality.

As yet, there is no release date or price details.
