Mosque Planning Permission Granted

Planning permission has been granted for a new mosque to be built on Higher Antley Street in Accrington.  The scheme is for a new three storey building complete with decorative minarets and a dome.  The existing mosque (formerly a church) will be demolished to make way for the expanded facility. This will feature a ground floor prayer area for men, a first floor prayer area for women and the top floor will provide a teaching area.

Concerns were raised by members of the council over the lack of parking facilities at the site, but these were not seen as significant enough to warrant refusal of the scheme.
